Homeboys Industries
This poster design project was inspired by the mission of Homeboy Industries, a nonprofit based in Los Angeles that supports formerly gang-involved and incarcerated individuals through rehabilitation and job training. Using graphic design as a form of advocacy, I created a visual piece centered on the theme “The Power to Change,” aiming to reflect the organization’s transformative impact and message of hope.

Project Overview
Motivated by the work of Homeboy Industries and its role in providing second chances, I set out to create a poster that would both visually honor their mission and serve as a compelling advocacy piece. The slogan “The Power to Change” emerged as a central message, representing both the internal transformation of individuals and the external support that makes change possible. The design process was rooted in both research and empathy. I explored the organization’s history, its values, and the stories of the people it supports to ensure the visual tone felt honest and uplifting rather than performative or overly polished. I aimed for a design that was bold, clear, and emotionally resonant—something that could be used in awareness campaigns, fundraising efforts, or internal morale-building.
Role & Responsibilities
Full creative concept and execution of the poster, including developing the messaging, designing the layout, selecting visual elements, and refining the final piece. This included research into the organization’s mission and ensuring that the tone and imagery were aligned with its values.
Workflow
Began with research into Homeboy Industries’ mission, branding, and testimonials to better understand its tone and the audience it serves. From there, I brainstormed concepts and drafted several slogan options before deciding on “The Power to Change.” Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I created visual mockups, iterated on layout and type treatments, and refined the design to ensure it communicated strength and transformation. I finalized the poster with a clean, professional layout suitable for digital and print formats.
